Pasadena's Oldest House for Sale

photo: Michael Dilsaver, Partners Trust
The James Craig Adobe, the oldest building in Pasadena, is up for sale.  A Cultural Heritage Landmark and also listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the house was built around the 1840's, before California became part of the union.  It was recently featured on a tour sponsored by the Pasadena Heritage Society highlighting the city's oldest homes.  170 years old and looking pretty damn good.

  1. It's sad to see artifacts like this being sold in the market. As an appreciator of these historical buildings, I would love to see this one get preserved or converted to a museum.

  2. I hear you. There are instances where the significance of the building is such that sharing it with the public is mutually beneficial (ie. The Gamble House), but if the (new) owner appreciates the history and does his/her best to maintain the architectural and historical integrity of the home then I'm okay with that.
